Position Overview
The University of Jos is seeking a distinguished and experienced individual for the role of Librarian, effective February 14, 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the University’s library services, ensuring alignment with academic and research objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations and strategic direction of the library.
- Develop and implement library policies and procedures.
- Manage the acquisition, cataloging, and preservation of library resources.
- Provide research support and reference services to the academic community.
- Lead and mentor library staff, ensuring professional growth and development.
- Administer budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation for the library.
- Stay abreast of key trends in library science and integrate emerging technologies.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Ph.D. in Library and Information Sciences or a related field from a recognized university.
- A minimum of 15 years of relevant post-qualification experience in Librarianship, including significant experience in an upper management position within a university or similar institution.
- Current service as a Deputy Librarian or equivalent.
- Age not exceeding 60 years as of February 14, 2025.
- Proven ability in human relations, with strong competence in Librarianship.
- Extensive knowledge of the University system and the role of a University Librarian in knowledge creation and dissemination.
- Demonstrated experience with digital resources and technology integration in library services.
- Expertise in budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to modern university libraries.
- Membership in the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria and the Nigerian Library Association.
- Experience with regional accreditation requirements.
- A strong record of research, publications, and administrative leadership.
Desirable:
- Successful experience in fundraising and obtaining grants.
- Experience with international accreditation requirements.
- Ability to manage and supervise library operations effectively on a daily basis.
