The Federal Government has announced that workers will soon see the benefits of the new national minimum wage and the related consequential adjustments. This statement was made by Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, during a Town Hall Engagement in Abuja.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), focused on the "Imperatives of the Eight-point Agenda of President Bola Tinubu Administration." It aimed to foster understanding of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to gather insights from both labor and employers.
Onyejeocha revealed that a tripartite committee, including representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the organized private sector, is currently meeting to discuss the payment modalities for the new wage and adjustments. She expressed hope that the meeting would conclude soon to enable immediate implementation.
The minister also expressed frustration over the delay in finalizing the figures for the adjustments and emphasized that the government is committed to addressing socio-economic challenges and evolving solutions to emerging issues affecting the nation’s wellbeing.
