President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and has committed to reviewing the national minimum wage law every three years. He also promised to explore ways to support the private sector and sub-national governments in implementing the new minimum wage.
The announcement was made during a meeting with leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday in Abuja, marking their second meeting in seven days.
Labour leaders praised President Tinubu for his fatherly gesture. Additionally, the President vowed to use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions seeking payment for four months of unpaid salaries.
