The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the approval and release of a list of 10,000 successful applicants for recruitment into the constable and specialist cadres of the Nigeria Police Force. This recruitment process was conducted with guidance from relevant stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, the National Assembly, and the Federal Character Commission, to ensure fairness and justice.
PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani announced the development, stating that on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the PSC received the report of the Police Recruitment Board. Out of the successful applicants, 9,000 were recruited for General Duty, while 1,000 were recruited for the Specialists cadre.
The PSC established a Recruitment Board, which included representatives from various stakeholders, to oversee the recruitment process and report back to the PSC. Interested Nigerian youths were invited to apply online, with the application window open from October 15, 2023, to November 26, 2023. The PSC received a total of 609,886 applications, out of which 416,323 met the advertised requirements and were shortlisted for the second stage, involving physical and document screening conducted across the country from January 8 to January 29, 2024.
Following the screening, 171,956 applicants were selected for Computer Based Tests (CBT) administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Subsequently, 15,447 General Duty applicants and 55,645 Specialist applicants were invited for medical screening and practical tests.
Ultimately, 10,000 applicants were recommended for final selection, with the selection of specialists conducted in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure capability and geographical balance. PSC Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase emphasized the rigorous recruitment process aimed at enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force and reinforcing its commitment to community-oriented policing.
Dr. Arase highlighted that the recruitment process aimed to build a competent, reliable, and representative Police Force. The final selection process ensured fairness and inclusivity, with candidates selected from each of the 774 local government areas, as advised by the National Assembly. To maintain confidentiality, the list of successful candidates will be presented in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023.
